Walking Wounded

Saving returned soldiers from suicide

Why should I donate?

Walking Wounded helps returned soldiers through a range of programmes that provide relevant and relatable emotional and practical support. Some of the ways in which we help are:

The Australian Counselling Association have offered to fund and mentor three returned soldiers through a counselling qualification, with the aim of providing counselling services in-house at Walking Wounded within the next two years.

Adventure programs

Building trust and confidence is the first step towards building a relationship with a soldier in need. We do this through adventure, outdoor and other physical programs including the Kokoda Trail and Mount Kilimanjaro.

Employment and development

We provide returned soldiers assistance with CV writing, interview techniques and job search strategies, as well as informally seeking employment, training and experiential opportunities on their behalf.

Volunteer involvement

We encourage and support ex-soldiers to volunteer to worthy organisations and charities, as we know contributing to a team is beneficial for good mental health and can help struggling soldiers feel valued by society.

"The wounded, the crippled and the dead are just part of the Afghanistan story. We feel the worst may be yet to come as our soldiers’ battle to come to grips with a normal life after returning from war. To face what they had to do and why their mates died and they did not. As the suicide rates increase among our young veterans it is time to make a stand."
